The Chain Bridge itself deserves closer inspection. The first permanent bridge across the Danube river the Chain Bridge was built in 1840 under auspices of Istvan Szechenyi. One of the architectural wonders of its time only England could boast of similar achievements. No wonder that Albion provided the model. Hungary was just experiencing an outbreak of Anglomania at that time.

BKV – Public Transport Budapest

Budapest has an efficient public transport network made up more than 180 buses, 14 trolley buses, 29 tram and the 3 subway lines. In general the buses, trolleys, trams operate between 4:30 am and 11 pm. The three subway lines intersect at Deak ter (Deak square) in the Budapest city center. Subways run at 2-15 minutes intervals from 4:30 am to 11:10 pm.
The local suburban train (HEV) can be used to travel out to Csepel Island in the south of Budapest and to nearby Szentendre, Godolo and Rackeve.
Maps sited at the entrances to subway stations give  a comprehensive overview of the entire public transport network in Budapest. Conditions of travel are also included in German and English.
BKV public transport is available free of charge to retired citizens of other EU Member countries too.
Tickets can be purchased at subway stations, ticket machines, tobacconists and newsagents. Best to buy your tickets at a subway station because there you have a choice of several types of tickets and various passes.
Single ticket (230 HUF) valid for bus, tram, trolley, subway, cogwheel railway for the entire length of the journey as well as the suburban within the administrative limits of Budapest.
